What's new in climate news and education during the month of July.

Climate in the news:

  1. Weather extremes due to climate change are threatening food production and driving up food prices

  2. Trump administration guts the EPA.

  3. Global water supplies are threatened by climate change and over-pumping aquifers.

  4. Record marine heatwaves may indicate a permanent shift to hotter.

Climate Education: As a heat dome stresses the central US: What is a heat dome?

Good climate news:

  1. There has been a big global win for climate IF followed.

  2. All the advances in solar make it the cheapest energy ever!

  3. Texas is using 500 used EV batteries to build a BIG battery.

How we can all help preserve a livable world for future generations:

  1. Early in WWII the US was losing on all fronts. It looked really bad. But they did not give up. That is what we must do now - not give up, for our kids' sake.  Every 1/10th of a degree increase we can help prevent is time well spent.  Be in the fight!

  2. What we all can and need to do, does not change much:

   a. Donate to, campaign for and vote for candidates who acknowledge climate change and promise action.  Systemic change is our best hope.

   b. Electrify your own home and car, as you are able.  Many tax credits go away January 1, 2026.

   c. Eat less red meat, especially beef. It requires tremendous input of corn and water and outputs of methane.

   d. Talk to friends and family about climate impacts and ask them to do also do items a & b, above.
